History of the Rose Part 1
After nearly two millennia of reign over the known world, the once mighty Roman Empire began to crumble under it’s own weight of excess and corruption.
It’s great armies were filled with the ranks of foreign legionaires, it’s generals were sons of every point on the globe. As Rome’s armies were spread thin, the northern army turned on it’s people. And then the barbarians came…
Rome was sacked, and the Barbarian king Charlemagne, ordained by a papal decree as the new emperor of The Holy Roman Empire, arose with the mandate from the heavens to conquer and destroy all that stood in his way. He moved the seat of power deep within the land of the Gauls and set to conquer all, to establish the new Reich…and for a time he succeeded.
But the winds change quickly on powerful men, and like that which came before, The Holy Roman Empire itself fell into civil wars.
Regional lords and power mad tyrants vied for the spoils of the once mighty Rome. The machines of war were propelled by the fickle wants of lesser rulers. Ruthless and blood thirsty soldiers of fortune murdered innocents and enslave the populaces in the name of these kings. None were safe…
The Holy Roman Empire fell as it had risen…with blood!
The world was thrown into the Dark Ages. Science and reason were outlawed, teaching and philosophy punishable by death. Learned men were tortured and killed, the few that survived fled to the southern regions, to the farthest reaches of the world…The ancient citadel of Alexandria, Egypt…The Towers of Paradise.
